‘We are incredibly delighted and thrilled to be finalists for this category this year. Winning Ultimate Luxury Bathroom Design of the Year last year was a real highlight of our achievements to date and we would be absolutely ecstatic to be able to add a Kitchen to our Designer KB awards trophy display! Designing and executing this kitchen for a fabulous family was a real delight and it is simply wonderful for it to have made it to the top three in it’s category for such a prestigious award. we would LOVE to keep stocking up on those desirable ‘d’ trophies!
A bit about the project:
IIItud and Kate requested a ‘Project One’ kitchen, with side return extension. ‘Industrial style with a relaxed and functional feel’ was the focus for the brief. What was originally the end of this Victorian terraced house with a small kitchen and inconveniently located utility room is now a ‘luxdustrial’ Project One Lifestyle space. We used mixed materials and wood finishes to subtly define and separate the three areas of eating, cooking and living. The main worktop food preparation area was innovatively designed to replicate a butchers block with a custom made 150ml thick solid oak top above a floating gloss island underneath. There is custom storage in abundance and we concealed the once awkward utility space by wrapping it with the units and a custom built bookshelf to house the family’s enormous book collection. The concrete tile floor made up of 1 meter squared tiles compliments all the various wood finishes and ties them together. We used reclamation brick selected from kiln-dried bricks as a feature wall and lit the bricks with up and down lighters and framed the wall with reclaimed radiators which had been sandblasted to add to the industrial aesthetic of the room. This busy family were extremely pleased with how the space turned out and so are we! Here’s praying we win!
